Cameron & Sheff

HOW WE MET

Cameron and Sheff met the old fashioned way... On an App.

A perfect first date at Chloe in DC's Navy Yard, led to a second date neither wanted to end. In no time, they were introducing one another to their better halves - their dogs Honey and Tucker - and from there Cameron and Sheff quickly realized they had found more than their partner but also their best friend.

THE PROPOSAL

Fast forward to Christmas Eve 2024...

The couple was celebrating the holidays at Cameron's family home in Florida, when after a long day of bowling, watching football and a festive wine-filled dinner, Sheff surprised Cameron by popping the question in front of her siblings and parents as they unwound and cleaned up from the evening. Amidst her laughter, tears and shock, Cameron said yes. It was exactly as she had always dreamt, without gimmicks or fan-fare but just a love-filled, low-key proposal during which the couple were their most authentic selves.

Once the Christmas festivities wrapped, the couple took off for the Bahamas where they celebrated the start of the New Year and their life together.

ACTIVITIES

GOLF

Spend your day brushing up on your golf and enjoying scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Designed in 1926 by Donald Ross, The 6,400-yard design is loaded with old-fashioned character and charm. Standout features include the “Do-drop” volcano par-3 sixth hole, and bunkerless par 5s defended by bold, undulating terrain, merging fairways, skyline views and the Graystone Inn, the original counterpart to The Carolina in Pinehurst, which serves as the clubhouse today.

Interested in playing golf on Friday and/or Saturday? Here are a few things to know:

- Roaring Gap does not require reservations or tee times to play. Whenever you're ready, just head up to the Golf Shop, and tell the shop's front desk that you're here for the Baker
wedding and would like to play, whether or not you'd like to rent a cart or walk the course, if you plan to play 9 or 18 holes, and your last name/temporary account number to charge the
round to.

- For mor information about pricing and lessons, drop by or call the Golf Shop at 336-363-5035.

- There are a limited number of rental clubs available, so we highly recommend bringing your own set with you if you'd like to play this weekend.

- Looking for someone to play with? Reach out to Cameron or Sheff and they'll be happy to connect you with other friends that'd like to play a round!

- On Fridays and Saturdays the course tends to be at its busiest around lunch time.

If you plan to play during your stay, please keep the following dress code in mind:

- Men: Slacks or full length walking shorts and collared golf or sport shirt.

- Women: Slacks or walking shorts or skirts and sport blouses or shirts.

RACQUET SPORTS

Roaring Gap offers an array of racquet sports for interested guests. The club has multiple tennis and pickleball courts located by the Greystone Inn, and a paddle tennis court located next to the "Dry Pond" off of Roaring Gap Drive towards the front entrance of the club.

For information on lessons or to reserve a court please call the Tennis Shop at 336-363-5027, or drop by to speak with the staff from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily. Loaner racquets and paddles are available, and the guest fee to play is $15 per guest, per day for unlimited play.

If you plan to play during your stay, please keep the following dress code in mind:

- Women: Shirts should completely cover the midriff, with athletic skirts/skorts of appropriate length (undergarments substantially covered), and surface appropriate shoes

- Men: shirts should cover the shoulders and torso, with athletic shorts/pants of appropriate length (undergarments substantially covered), and surface appropriate shoes

THE LAKE

Head down to Lake Louise to enjoy a day in the sand or on the water.

Brush up on your cannon balls, try your hand at paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing, or if you're feeling up for a challenge swim across the lake and back! But if you choose to swim across, don't forget to have someone follow alongside in a kayak on your journey (lake rules!)

HIKING TRAILS

Feel like stretching your legs? Take a hike along the trail system located on the property! There are many routes which are well marked throughout the club, ranging in difficulty from easy to strenuous. Copies of the trail map can be found at the front desk of the Greystone Inn and as part of the information you receive when checking in/receive your temporary account number.

LODGING

The Roaring Gap Club

Given the unique nature of the club and its remote location, we have coordinated the accommodations for all of our guests.

Guests will stay on-property in the private residences graciously rented and loaned to us by other Roaring Gap Club Members.

Cameron and Sheff have already communicated next steps to those individuals and groups that need to take any. If you were not contacted then there is nothing you need to do at this time, and you will receive your lodging assignment when you arrive to Roaring Gap and check-in.

Charge Accounts

Guests will have access to all open Club amenities throughout the wedding weekend.

During check-in, guests will receive a temporary Roaring Gap Club member number to use throughout the weekend. In lieu of cash or card, guests will provide their temporary member number for payment while at Roaring Gap Club.

Any charges incurred for food and beverage, greens fees, tennis clinic fees, or other guest fees will be charged directly to the guest via their temporary member number, and be billed at the end of the month.

Check-In

The Front Desk of the Graystone Inn (pictured on the homepage of this website) will have a complete list of guests and their assigned accommodations. Guests will check-in at the Front Desk to receive their temporary Roaring Gap Club member number, and directions to their lodging from the Graystone Inn. To avoid accidental lockouts, homes will be unlocked prior to guests arriving, and should remain unlocked all weekend. No keys will be given out so please do not lock the doors to your home!

Guests may check-in at the Front Desk on Thursday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM and with our wedding planners at the Greystone Inn from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Guests arriving on Friday or Saturday may check-in at the Greystone Inn Front Desk from 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

If you plan to arrive outside of these times, please email baker@laurynprattes.com with your name and anticipated arrival date/time so we can coordinate plans for your arrival. We look forward to hosting you in Roaring Gap soon!

Check-Out

Upon departure, guests are kindly asked to return any items issued at check-in back to the Front Desk. The club requests that all guests check-out by 11:00 AM on Sunday.

EXPLORE TOWN

The mountains of Northwest North Carolina provide a wealth of cultural, art and entertainment experiences which are all just a short drive from the Club. There will be plenty to do on-site throughout the weekend, but for those eager to venture outside of Roaring Gap there's a lot to explore!

Here are some of the best spots for food and dining in the nearby towns of Elkin and Sparta, as well as a few favorite shops and local attractions just outside the Club's entrance.

DINING SPOTS ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Blue Ridge Parkway

Experience “America’s Favorite Drive”. Guests can access the Parkway in just five minutes, opening up a world of outdoor opportunities including camping, fishing, hiking, bicycling and much, much more!

Yadkin Valley Wine Country

Roaring Gap is located in the heart of Yadkin Valley Wine Country, making it a convenient and desired overnight destination for visitors coming to experience some of the top wineries in the country. Renowned destinations, including Shelton Vineyards, Jones Von Drehle, McRitchie, Grassy Creek, Roaring River, RagApple Lassie, Raffaldini, Elkin Creek and many more are located a short drive from the property.

Stone Mountain

Located less than 15 minutes from Roaring Gap, Stone Mountain State Park is one of the most iconic outdoor destinations in all of North Carolina. The famed granite dome watches over hundreds of thousands of outdoor adventure seekers each year, while the park itself offers over 18 miles of hiking trails, along with fishing, climbing, horseback riding, picnic spots and much more!

New River State Park

Dedicated as a National Scenic River in 1976, this gentle river is the centerpiece of New River State Park.

The New River area still maintains an old-fashioned charm. Mountain roads are narrow and winding, dotted with small farms, churches and country stores. The river itself is tranquil, offering good bass fishing, trout streams, excellent birding and inspiring mountain scenery. But perhaps the best way to absorb and appreciate the river's peacefulness is from the seat of a canoe as it glides across the slow-moving waters, which can be accessed through the Alleghany Country entry point just miles from Roaring Gap.

Cultural Attractions

The Blue Ridge Music Center and Rex Theater in Galax, along with the Alleghany Jubilee in Sparta are popular local destinations for live music. Nearby towns Mt. Airy, Sparta and Elkin are also hot spots for the arts – giving visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique culture of the North Carolina Mountains.
